Confessions of a Train-Watcher: Four Decades of Railroad Writing
Published in Hardcover by Kalmbach Publishing Company (July, 1997)
Authors: David Page Morgan and George H. Drury
Average review score:

Remembering the railroad fan's consummate writer
David P. Morgan's editorship and molding of "Trains" Magazine have outlasted him, a true testament to a visionary. He took the founder's concept and gave it discipline, vitality and credibility.

This volume draws together the best of his writing. Whether he is describing a mundane ride on a now-forgotten train or the thrill of seeing a streamliner at speed, his prose is riveting. The photos, while not Mr. Morgan's, all complement each story and open windows on the past, proving that black-and-white pictures can have as much impact as the best in color.

Thankfully, Mr. Drury has memorialized Mr. Morgan and his stellar contributions in this work, so that future generations who are attracted to the rails, and to the magzine, can understand who made it possible. (Would that Mr. Morgan's successors at the magazine remember his contributions as beautifully as Mr. Drury has.)

Connie Morgan With the Mounted
Published in Hardcover by Amereon Ltd (June, 1989)
Author: James B. Hendryx
Average review score:

A classic for young adults. Very hard to find.
I have a copy of the 1918 first printing of this book which I read for the first time when I was eleven years old. The story follows a young boy on his own in the Yukon territory of Canada and how he becomes a member of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police. His adventures are gripping, educational and inspiring. Not politically correct by today's standards especially regarding Native Americans. But, as a young boy becoming a young man 20 years ago, this was the book that launched me into the world of reading. I continue to search for the 5 other titles in the Connie Morgan series

A Covert Life: Jay Lovestone Communist, Anti-Communist, and Spymaster
Published in Hardcover by Random House (March, 1999)
Author: Ted Morgan
Average review score:

Iliad of the Cold War
The only word forthis book is OPULENT.Imagine a book whose subject is the first half of the cold war.Now imagine that it reads like a novel, has a cast of characters any Hollywood producer would drool over, is informed by enough primary research to supply a shelf of books, brims with enough ORIGINAL, never published archival revelations to keep twenty academics in grants for a decade.Furthermore, imagine that it approaches it's highly politicized subject with no axe to grind, no kowtowing to this pundit or that one, and is primarily driven by the twin ideals of NARRATIVE and RESEARCH. That's what this is. What a read! Is bound to draw the ire of mousier historians who will resent it's independence from a whole industry of secondary sources. This is the Iliad of the Cold War, not some bundle of commentary.

Crafting Beautiful Journals & Albums: How to Personalize, Embellish & Make Diaries & Scrapbooks
Published in Paperback by North Light Books (February, 2001)
Author: Anna Morgan
Average review score:

Lavish Visuals
Anna Morgan has the eye of a czarina when it comes to creating visual richness. The book is full of marvelous ideas great and small, many of which are quite inexpensive. For example, she suggests saving colored foil candy wrappers to smooth out and use as raw material to decorate the covers of books. Now why didn't I think of that the last time I crumpled and discarded a candy wrapper?

Morgan presents three categories of ideas: ones to use in decorating the covers of books, ones to use in embellishing the interior pages of books, and ones to use in making unusual books themselves. It has very clear instructions for all the projects, and has many detailed photographs and drawings. Very useful are variations on each idea, so you can see examples of how she takes her concept and reapplies it to make it look totally different.

If this book has a fault, it is that papermaking and bookbinding, both of which are described in the book, might each be the subject of detailed treatises much longer than this volume. No matter, this book is an inspiration.

Curious Rosie
Published in Hardcover by Hyperion Press (March, 2000)
Authors: Mary Vanroyen-Morgan and Mary Morgan
Average review score:

Curious Rosie
This is a delightful book for a young child. It celebrates curiosity by showing a lovable mouse named Rosie being curious about all sorts of things...what snowflakes taste like, who lives in the little hill (ants), and what's in that jar (cookies!). A loving book for a preschooler and parent to enjoy together.

Published in Unknown Binding by Morgan Kaufmann Pub (E) (October, 2001)
Author: Gerald E. Farin
Average review score:

A bible for CAGD people
This book should be considered as a bible for people (including students, researchers, engineers and programmers) working in the CAGD area. The author placed a good balance between the discussion of theoretical (mathematical) and practical (implementation) issues of curves and surfaces design.

Database Modeling & Design: The Fundamental Principles (Morgan Kaufmann Series in Data Management Systems)
Published in Paperback by Morgan Kaufmann (May, 1900)
Author: Toby J. Teorey
Average review score:

Best book I've seen on DB design!!
Why waste your time reading 600+ pages to learn how to create a database? You can read this book and it is less than 300 pages! It covers everything. I recommend this book to anyone that wants to know what makes a great relational database work regardless of the DBMS. This is for beginners wanting to learn for the first time to those with DB experience that want a refresher on the fundamentals!

GREAT
This book is a must read for teens as well as adults. It opens both girls and boys up to each others minds, and lets you see the reality. It tells the whole truth- ugly and good, but everything the book is about is something that every girl and guy should know. Justin and Hayley have done just an awesome job with this book, and everyone should read it. It's amazing!
